Chicago Travel Tips

The complete guide to visiting Chicago, what to see, where to stay and eat, how to handle the airports, and every major 2026 event and convention worth planning around. Jump to any section or search below.

Planning Your Trip

Chicago is big, walkable in pockets, and spread across distinct neighborhoods connected by the lake on one side and the expressways on the other. A little planning goes a long way. Group your days by area, the downtown museums and Millennium Park together, the Lakeview and Lincoln Park North Side another day, and build in buffer time around rush hour, roughly 7 to 9 in the morning and 4 to 6:30 in the evening, when the Kennedy, Dan Ryan, and Lake Shore Drive slow to a crawl.

Summer is festival season and the busiest, liveliest time to visit. Fall brings cooler weather, the marathon, and convention season. Winter is cold but magical around the holidays. Whenever you come, a flat-rate car service takes the guesswork out of getting around, no surge pricing, no parking hunts, and a chauffeur who knows the shortcuts.

Tip: Build your schedule around your hardest-to-move commitments first, flights, dinner reservations, show times, then fill in the flexible stops. We can pre-book every leg so the day runs itself. Reserve a ride.

Airports, Pickup & Drop-Off

Chicago has two major airports plus two executive fields. O'Hare (ORD) sits about 17 to 18 miles northwest of downtown (roughly 30 to 55 minutes), and Midway (MDW) is about 12 miles southwest (25 to 45 minutes). We also serve Chicago Executive (PWK) and DuPage (DPA) for private and corporate aviation.

How airport pickup works

For arrivals, we track your flight in real time and adjust to delays at no extra charge. Your chauffeur coordinates an exact meeting point, and meet-and-greet service with a name sign is available. For departures, we build in time for traffic and curbside drop at your terminal, and recommend allowing the airline's suggested lead time on top of the drive.

Scheduling your airport ride

Book as early as you can for peak travel mornings and convention weeks. We confirm a flat rate up front, no surge even at 5 a.m. or during a snowstorm. For the smoothest departure, schedule your pickup so you reach O'Hare about two to three hours before an international flight, or per your airline's domestic guidance.

From the suburbs: We run flat-rate airport transfers from Naperville, Schaumburg, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, and beyond. See the FAQ for more on airport service.

Business & Conventions

Chicago is a top convention city, and we handle corporate and group transportation across all of it. The two big hubs are McCormick Place (2301 S Lake Shore Dr), the largest convention center in North America, in the South Loop, and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (5555 N River Rd) in Rosemont, right by O'Hare.

For McCormick Place, the connected South Loop hotels (Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Marriott Marquis) are the most convenient base. For Stephens in Rosemont, the cluster of hotels by O'Hare puts you minutes from both the show floor and your flight.

Corporate car service

Our corporate and executive service covers airport transfers for visiting teams, client transportation, multi-stop roadshows, convention shuttling between hotels and the show floor, and group logistics. We offer professional chauffeurs, clean late-model vehicles, and reliable on-time service, with billing options for business accounts.

Planning a convention trip? Book early during big shows like the National Restaurant Association Show or IMTS, when hotels and vehicles fill fast. We coordinate group arrivals and daily transfers so your team never waits. Request a corporate quote or call (708) 289-0488.

Getting Around the City

Chicago is laid out on a grid centered on State and Madison downtown, which makes it easier to navigate than most big cities. The lakefront runs the entire eastern edge, and the river splits downtown into recognizable sections. Still, traffic, parking, and weather make a chauffeured car the easiest way to move between neighborhoods.

Neighborhoods worth exploring

Beyond downtown, build time for Wicker Park (indie shops and nightlife), the West Loop (the restaurant scene), Hyde Park (the University of Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry), Old Town (Second City and historic streets), and Streeterville (Navy Pier and the lakefront). Each has its own character and its own dining.

Parking and driving notes

Downtown parking is expensive and street spaces are scarce, especially during events. Many North Side neighborhoods are permit-only. Lake Shore Drive is scenic but jams at rush hour. The upshot: for visitors, a pre-booked car beats the stress of driving and parking yourself, and beats rideshare surge on busy nights.

One ride, every stop: Our hourly chauffeur service is perfect for a packed day, museums in the morning, lunch in the West Loop, shopping on the Mag Mile, dinner and a show, all without re-booking between stops.
