Halloween in Chicago 2026 falls on a Saturday, and that changes everything. The parties start a week early, the bars go all out, and the city has two full weekends of parades, pop-ups and costume nights. Here is what is happening, where to go, and how to get your group there and home safe.
A Saturday Halloween means almost everyone is free to go out. That is great for the night, and hard on getting around. Expect packed bars in Lakeview, River North and the West Loop, closed streets for two parades, and rideshare prices that jump when the bars let out. A little planning goes a long way.
Dates and times can change. Check each event's official page before you go.
This is the big downtown parade, and it is a week early, so it does not clash with Halloween night. Giant puppets, costumes, music and art groups march up Columbus Drive from Balbo Drive to Jackson Boulevard, from 6 to 8 PM. It is free and good for all ages.
People line the route early, so come ahead of time if you want a good spot. Streets around Grant Park close for the parade, and nearby buses may be detoured. If you are coming by car, it is easiest to get dropped off a few blocks away on Michigan Avenue and walk in. We set a pickup corner outside the closed area so your car is waiting when the parade ends. Book a Loop or South Loop pickup ahead of time.
The Northalsted parade turns 30 this year, and it is bigger than ever. For the first time it is an all-day event. North Halsted Street becomes a pedestrian-only street party starting at 11 AM, with food, vendors, live music, a kids' zone and daytime trick-or-treating.
Halsted is closed to cars all day, and the side streets fill up fast. This is one night you do not want to drive. We drop you on a nearby street like Broadway or Clark, and pick you up at a corner you choose ahead of time, away from the crowd.
Saturday crowds, closed streets in Northalsted, costumes that do not fit in a small car, and every bar letting out at once. Rideshare prices spike and wait times grow. A booked car with a flat rate and a set pickup spot takes all of that off the table.
If your group wants to hit a few bars in costume, a crawl is the easiest way to do it. These are the big ones for 2026:
Crawls are fun until it is time to get home. Instead of splitting the group into five rideshares, book a Sprinter party bus or a Sprinter van by the hour. Your chauffeur moves the group from stop to stop and waits nearby. When the night is over, everyone rides home together.
Chicago bars go big on Halloween decor. These themed pop-ups are running this season:
Hours change often during the season, so check each bar's page before you go. A few of these are easy to link into one night with an hourly chauffeur.
The photo at the top of this page is from Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up, one of the most popular fall spots in the city. It is on Goose Island and runs through Sunday, November 1, with timed tickets. Last year it had a huge patch of pumpkins, a corn maze with a hidden bar at the end, food trucks, cider donuts and carnival games. Drinks are served to guests 21 and over.
Weekends get busy and parking nearby is tight. If you are going with a group or a family, a car drop-off at the entrance saves the hassle.
These are dress-up nights. Pulling up in a stretch limo or a stretch Hummer is part of the fun, and nobody has to worry about parking a car downtown on a Saturday night.
Halloween is on a Saturday this year, so party buses, Sprinter vans and limos will book up for both weekends. Lock in your ride now with a flat rate and no surge.

Plenty of Halloween groups come into the city from the suburbs. The drive in is easy. The drive home at 1 AM is not. We pick up groups in Naperville, Schaumburg, Oak Brook, Orland Park and across Chicagoland. No train schedule to watch, no parking garage, and no one stuck as the designated driver.
